• To install Snap Mail from the distribution floppy:
1) Quit all applications and turn off any virus software you are running.
2) Double-click on the “Installer” icon.
3) Click on the “Install” button in the window that appears.
Your Macintosh will be restarted at the end of the installation and Snap Mail will be up and running!
• To install Snap Mail from a network file server:
(you may need to do this for some powerbooks that do not have floppy drives, or if part of your network is connected remotely)
First copy the entire distribution floppy onto your file server by dragging the floppy's icon onto the file server's icon. This should create a folder on your file server called "Snap Mail". NOTE: Do not drag the files individually.
You can then install Snap Mail onto any Macintosh that has access to your file server by following these steps:
1) Use the chooser to mount the file server volume to which the Snap Mail distribution floppy was copied as explained above.
2) Quit all applications and turn off any virus software you are running.
3) Open the Snap Mail folder on your file server volume.
4) Double click on the "Installer" icon.
5) Click on the “Install” button in the window that appears.
Your Macintosh will be restarted at the end of the installation and Snap Mail will be up and running!
IMPORTANT: If you are installing a fully licensed version of Snap Mail onto a Macintosh that was running the demo version, you should use the automatic installer. If you cannot use the automatic installer, then you must throw away the "Snap MailBox" file in the "Snap Mail Files" folder of the Mac you are installing onto.
• System 6 manual installation:
1) Drag the following files into your System Folder
"Snap Mail" <- This is the extension file NOT the System 7 DA
"Snap Mail Help"
"Hot Snap Sys 6" <- you can rename this file to "Hot Snap" if you like.
2) Install the “Snap Mail DA” file into your system using the Font/DA
Mover program.
•System 7 manual installation:
1) Close all currently running applications.
2) 2) Drag the following files onto the icon of your System Folder:
"Snap Mail"
" Snap Mail" <- This is the System 7 DA. Note the leading space.
"Snap Mail Help"
"Snap Chime"
"Snap Horn"
"Snap Talk"
"Hot Snap Sys 7" <- You can rename this file to "Hot Snap" if you like.
A dialog box will appear asking if you want to “...put these items in
special places inside the System Folder...” Click on the “OK” button.
Note: You must drag these items onto the ICON for the System Folder, not into the opened System Folder window.
• Suitcase: Old versions of Suitcase will cause an error alert to appear at start-up time that proclaims an unexpected error -109. Upgrading to Suitcase II version 2.1.2 or later fixes this problem.
• Escapade: Old versions of Escapade can cause a crash when opening a log item in the Delivered Mail Log. Upgrading to version 1.3.2 or later fixes this problem.
• Retrospect Remote: If Retrospect is set to intercept shutdown for a late night backup Snap Mail will not get a chance to dump any pending mail to a server until AFTER the backup, when the shutdown procedure completes. If this is a problem for you, you should turn on the "Send all mail directly to server" preference.
